My Top 5 Link Building Tips
I hate link building, it's a slow and boring task which I try and avoid, but I'm always drawn back because when it works it produces some very nice results. I am always on the lookout on new ideas and thinking's on how to produce good quality back links, because every little bit helps. Below are some of my top link building tips.
- Anchor Text. This is the most important thing to know about link building. The text inside the back link should contain your keywords you want to rank for in the search engines. Try not to stick the any one phase or keyword, try and slightly alternate the wording. For example if you're trying to rank for "boots", try and include some brand names into your links. e.g. "Timberland Boots" or "Wellington Boots".
- Link Build Different Pages. Lots of people when link building focus on the homepage alone, try and link to some other pages on the site as well. This will give your link building campaign a more natural feel to the search engines, combined with alternating the anchor text will also help.
- Slow and Steady. Try and do a certain amount of links per day and keep a steady stream. Loads of back links all at once will alert the search engines and may penalise you.
- Make it easy to link to you. The best link building is link building other people do for you. Why not make it easy to post your site to social networking sites like twitter and facebook, by introducing the quick post buttons they provide. If your site is a blog why not provide a box so people can copy some html code which provides an opening sentence and a link to your blog post.
- Promote. When you post a blog entry, try and post a link to it on twitter or facebook, someone may also be interested and post a link elsewhere. You can also use a site like http://feedshark.brainbliss.com/ to "Ping" your site to many blog and news websites to make them aware of new posts.
